Activists in Upper Manhattan are taking a stand against putting up more luxury high-rise buildings in their neighborhoods.
Dozens rallied at the site of a proposed high-rise in Inwood.
Activists say the new developments will add an influx of market-rate units and hurt long-term residents.
People we spoke to say the neighborhood is a major hub for working class Manhattanites.
"We're going to face major displacement as the rezoning plans come in to provide luxury towers for the rich, banks and developers," said one activist.
"People are being driven out of their neighborhoods, this is active discrimination," said another.
"We're a neighborhood that is a cozy neighborhood and we can't afford this expansion," said a third. "The rents are gonna go up and the people in the neighborhood can't afford that."
Activists are calling on city officials to give residents more say in building proposals.
