The NYPD released a surveillance video they believe shows a man who tried to rape a young woman near a New York University residence hall in Greenwich Village early Saturday morning.

Investigators say the man seen in the video approached the 20-year-old around 4 a.m., put her into a bear hug and then sexually assaulted her.

The victim first refused medical attention, but she was eventually taken to a hospital for observation.

The incident happened near the intersection of 10th Street and 5th Avenue, where NYU’s Rubin Hall is located.
