Some lawmakers are suing the city over a proposal to convert a Holiday Inn into a homeless shelter in one Queens neighborhood.

Another heated meeting took place between Maspeth residents and city officials Wednesday.

Backlash has overwhelmed the city's plan to turn the Holiday Inn Express on 55th Road into a 115-bed homeless shelter.

Officials say the shelter would house adults originally from Maspeth while also tackling the city's homelessness crisis.

Residents argue it would negatively impact the neighborhood.

"We don't want the type that's coming into the building," said one person who attended the meeting. "We could see if it's veterans, for children or something, you know, but what's going in there is not right."

"Bringing a homeless shelter to our community, we lower the value of the houses, I believe, at least 10 to 20 percent, and the homeless people will be brought from different neighborhoods to our neighborhood," said another.

City Council member Elizabeth Crowley is among three lawmakers who filed the lawsuit to block the city's plan.

The suit charges that the shelter would not provide cooking facilities in the units, which violates city law.
