SANTA CLARA, CUBA - It's taken more than half a century, but Americans can once again fly commercial to Cuba.

The first historic flight between the U.S. and the island nation in more than 50 years left Florida Wednesday morning.

Airport crews looked on as JetBlue Flight 387 took off from Fort Lauderdale with 150 passengers.

It landed in Santa Clara, Cuba.

The flight signals a new era of travel between the two countries after a trade embargo and formal U.S. travel ban went into effect in the early '60s.

Travelers will soon have access to more than 400 commercial flights to Cuba each week.

Direct flights from New York are expected to be available by December.

The last commercial flight from the U.S. to Cuba was shortly after the October 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.
