NEW YORK - The maker of the EpiPen says it will make a generic version of the device following criticism over its soaring cost.

Mylan says the generic version will cost $300 for a two-pack and will be available in the next few weeks.

But the company will still distribute the branded EpiPen, which costs more than $600 for a two pack.

EpiPens are used to treat severe allergic reactions to things like bee stings, shellfish and peanuts.

The price for them has gone up 400 percent since 2007.
