Sources say the man who killed John Lennon has once again been denied parole.

This is the ninth time that Mark David Chapman, 61, has been denied release.

In 2014, the parole board said a release would be "incompatible with the welfare of society" and that Lennon's murder had devastated those who loved him.

Chapman shot the former Beatle outside Lennon's apartment on the Upper West Side in 1980.

Chapman pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.

He is currently in a maximum security prison outside Buffalo.

Chapman is slated to be eligible for parole again in two years.
