Community members in the Bronx's Little Italy are lending a helping hand to help earthquake victims in Italy.

The Belmont business community has teamed up with Community Board 6 and Councilman Ritchie Torres to set up the Italian Disaster Relief Fund.

Money raised in the fund will go to the Italian Consulate General.

"It's in moments like these when all of us should recognize what we have in common, which is our shared humanity," said City Councilman Ritchie Torres of the Bronx.

"When you look at the Italian flag, the colors, green, white and red, they represent faith, hope and charity. And today, we're exhibiting all of those virtues, especially charity," said John Sanchez, district manager with Community Board 6.

Organizers are also encouraging community members to make individual donations.
