Federal officials say Gov. Andrew Cuomo's administration failed to properly manage millions of dollars intended to boost tourism in areas of the state that were badly damaged by storms.

A new report from the Federal Housing Department's Inspector General accuses state officials of mismanaging $22 million in federal funds. The money was meant to promote areas affected by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee in 2011, and Sandy in 2012.

The audit says officials failed to comply with procurement regulations and did not ensure all money was spent in an efficient manner.

The Cuomo administration disputes the findings stating tourism rose in all affected regions, and that the audit is incorrectly interpreting federal regulations.
