Record-breaking demand for electricity pushed the state's power grid to the limit Saturday.

Con Edison officials said customers in the city and Westchester County used 11,855 megawatts of power 4 p.m. Saturday, an all-time-high for a weekend day.

The previous record was more than 300 megawatts lower, set in July 2011.

Con Ed officials said crews are out fixing scattered outages across the state.

They are asking New Yorkers to conserve power by keeping window blinds closed, running appliances at night, and setting air conditioners to the highest comfortable temperature; City Hall suggests that is 78 degrees.

Officials said Con Edison has reduced voltage by five percent as a precaution to protect equipment and maintain service as repairs are made.
