The Justice Department says it's investigating the fatal shooting of a black man by police in Louisiana.

Cellphone video shows the Tuesday morning confrontation between two officers and 37-year-old Alton Sterling.

Officials say an anonymous caller told officers a man selling CDs outside a convenience store in Baton Rouge threatened him with a gun.

When they found Sterling outside the store, officials say an altercation broke out and police tackled him to the ground. That's when officials say one of the officers opened fire, killing Sterling.

"I will say that based on the information that I have obtained from law enforcement, but certainly the footage that I observed of the video that was made available, I have very serious concerns," said Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards. "The video is disturbing, to say the least."

An autopsy shows Sterling had multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and back.

The officers involved have since been placed on administrative leave.

The incident have sparked protests, with hundreds of people gathered outside the convenience store.
