The recent heat wave may have technically ended with yesterday's high of 89, but with more hot weather in store this week the city is still offering plenty of ways to stay cool.

Beaches and outdoor pools are open today.

Lifeguards will be on duty at the beaches from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m., and at the pools from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

One of the "hottest" places to take a dip is the Astoria pool in Queens.

It's one of the biggest outdoor pools in the five boroughs.

While many come to the pool for a casual swim, others come to take part in its daily exercise program.

Swimmers tell NY1 it's a part of their summer routine.

"This is how I get my day started during the summer then I have time to do what I need to do. But a lot of people come in and swim before work, there's some people who can hang their clothes so they can go right to work and then come back after and do the same thing at night," said one swimmer.

"It's a great way to like start the day, it's a beautiful and huge pool, not far from my apartment so I come pretty regularly," said another swimmer.

City residents can also get a sprinkler cap for a fire hydrant at their local firehouse if they are at least 18 years old and show ID.

Cooling centers will be also open again today around the five boroughs.
