With temperatures climbing into the 90s for a sixth day, many New Yorkers are desperate for this heat wave to end. But some are embracing the hot weather. NY1's Roger Clark reports.

Folks in Marine Park were getting in their walks and jogs early — hoping to escape into air conditioning sometime soon.

"You have to walk either early morning or later on during the day when the sun starts going down," said one early riser.

Good advice as the city endured yet another day of sweltering temperatures — not alone though, other parts of the country are also melting due to an atmospheric phenomenon called a heat dome.

People we asked had never heard of it.

So here's the scoop — a heat dome occurs when a high pressure system in the upper atmosphere acts like lid — pushing warm air down towards the surface and trapping it there, preventing the air from escaping as the sun heats it up day after day. So that's what's making us all sweat and long for cooler days.

"I've never heard of it but I personally believe we started fooling around and it's the ozone layers that are just falling apart and I think that's why the whole ecological system off whack," said one.

But despite the heat, people still like to get their workout. Walk their dogs. Ride bikes. That doesn't mean they don't wish the mercury would drop, even just a few degrees.

"I don't like it," said one. "I don't like the hot weather at all."

But not everyone feels that way. If you remember back in January, I was reporting following a giant snowstorm in town. Some will take this heat over that scenario, any day.

"I like it hot," said one.

Question: Even when it's above 90?

"Yeah, it doesn't bother me. I do like it. I prefer it to the winter. I can't stand winter."

So now it's a heat dome, six months ago we were freezing because of a polar vortex. Maybe we should invent a term for somewhere in the middle? Call it 75 and sunny with no humidity.
