It's called cereal and milk. It’s a decadent dessert featuring chocolate cake and a chocolate dome filled with vanilla malt cream; a crack with a spoon unleashes that unmistakable flavor onto caramelized rice puffs.

"People have a really fun time kind of smashing the dessert and kind of going at it," said Geoff Koo, pastry chef at Riverpark Restaurant.

You can try Chef Koo's creation at Riverpark on East 29th Street, one of a record 388 eateries taking part in Restaurant Week, the twice a year promotion from NYC and Company, the city's tourism promotion organization.

"We're offering three-course lunches for 29 dollars, three-course dinners, for 42 dollars,” said Chris Heywood, Senior Vice President of Global Communications for NYC & Company.

That excludes beverages, taxes and tip, but it's still an amazing deal, and a chance to visit restaurants in more than 40 neighborhoods around the city that feature more than 30 different cuisines.

It runs through August 19th, so really, you can call it Restaurant Month.

"The idea is to get new diners into the restaurant and have them return again and again,” added Heywood. “So it's a great business development mechanism for the restaurants in an otherwise slower time."

Geoff Koo at Riverpark wants diners to come on in for lunch, and is prepared with herbs, fruits and vegetables from their farm right outside the restaurant.

"It's great for all of the guests to try all our great cuisine and really enjoy what this restaurant has to offer," said Koo.

While you're enjoying your meal here at Riverpark or another restaurant, NYC & Company is encouraging you to take a picture of it, then put it on Instagram, hashtag it #NYCRestaurantWeek. For that, you can win a fifty dollar gift certificate to a participating restaurant.

"We're the restaurant, dining capital of the world here. We've got great restaurants, we've got great chefs, so make it a date," continued Chris Heywood.
