Amid the scorching heat, Con Edison says around 250 customers in East Harlem have no power.

This comes as Con Ed is asking residents in that area and many others in Manhattan and the Bronx to reduce their power usage.

The power company says crews are working to fix equipment problems in the area and have reduced voltage by 5%, down from 8% earlier in the day.

They’re asking residents to not use any energy-intensive appliances such as washers, dryers, microwaves and if possible, air conditioners.

The area includes more than 70,000 customers, many in Harlem, East Harlem and Washington Heights.

More than 30,000 customers in the Riverdale section of the Bronx between the Hudson River and Sedgwick Avenue are also being asked to reduce their power usage.

The company has not a given a timeframe for how long customers should cut back on electricity.

If you need to report an outage in your area, you can either go to the Con Ed web site, or call 1-800-75-CONED
