The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for Monday, July 25, as heat index values are expected to reach 105 degrees.

The Excessive Heat Watch is for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, according to the Weather Service.

An Excessive Heat Watch is issued when there is the potential of the heat index to exceed 110 degrees within the next 24 to 48 hours.

The city is currently embroiled in a heat wave. The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory until 7 p.m. Saturday for Manhattan, The Bronx, Staten Island, and Brooklyn.

Temperatures reached as high as 96 degrees Saturday for what could be the hottest day of the year so far.

The city is reminding New Yorkers to stay cool during this weekend heat wave.

People are urged to stay out of the heat as much as possible, to stay hydrated, and check on the elderly.

Those with chronic health conditions are being asked limit outside activity.

Cooling centers are open Saturday to provide air-conditioned spaces for those in need.

Cooling centers include libraries, senior centers, and Housing Authority facilities.

Sprinkler caps for fire hydrants are also available.

You can get one at your local firehouse as long as you are at least 18 years old and show ID.
