NY1 and one of our political reporters were honored Saturday night at the Associated Press Association's annual broadcast news excellence competition.

Congratulations to Courtney Gross, who received the new First Amendment Award for her effort to gain access to police body camera footage from the NYPD.

NY1 has taken the department to court after it denied our Freedom of Information Law requests.

Oral arguments in the suit over the body camera footage are set to begin Tuesday.

The ongoing series also won special mention for enterprise reporting.

NY1 had two other special mentions.

Political reporter Grace Rauh was honored for her investigative reporting on the conflict of interest involving a lobbyist firm headed by Mayor Bill de Blasio's friend, Jonathan Rosen.

Another special mention for public service went to our colon cancer awareness campaign prompted by NY1 Anchor Roma Torre's battle with the disease.
