Sunday was National Cancer Survivors Day, and a few locals went the extra mile to raise awareness about the disease at Astoria Park.

Over a hundred runners came together for the annual We Run for Hope 5k race to raise awareness and money for SHARE, on profit dedicated to assisting those with ovarian and breast cancer.

The race was open to runners and to walkers of all ages.

Queens Village resident, Tricia Singh, first organized it four years ago after she learned of her mom's cancer diagnosis.

"The people come out just to support one another," Singh said. "A lot of our runners are cancer survivors themselves or they have relatives, parents that have died of cancer,"

The event helped raise $5,000 for SHARE.
