The owner of the famous pizza restaurant L & B Spumoni Gardens was fatally shot Thursday night in Brooklyn, according to the city police department.

Police said they found Louis Barbati, 61, with a gunshot wound in his torso outside his home on 12th Avenue near 76th Street in Dyker Heights.

Barbati was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Police said Barbati was found at the front of his house and his wife was there at the time.

"It's a shame, it really is," one local man said. "I think this is like the only thing that's happened in this neighborhood."

"This neighborhood's the best; it doesn't change what's happened today," said another man."It's an inside issue, and that's it."

"I don't know what happened, how it happened," another local resident said. "Why would anybody want to do that? There's gotta be a reason, right? That's all I could say."

Police said the gunman is believed to be in his 30s.

No arrests have been made, the police department said, and the investigation is ongoing.
