Members of New York's congressional delegation came together to push for a vote on gun control legislation.

Lawmakers and advocates rallied on the steps of City Hall.

They want what they call common sense gun reform, including blocking suspected terrorists from buying a weapon.

This comes days after nearly three dozen Democrats staged a 25-hour sit-in on the floor of the House, demanding a vote.

"How many people have to die before you will take sensible measures to do what a government is supposed to do, which is protect the American people?” said Rep. Carolyn Maloney, whose district covers parts of Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn.

“Nobody should be able to buy an automatic weapon or a firearm without having a preliminary check. This is not a partisan issue," said Rep. Charles Rangel, whose district covers parts of Manhattan and the Bronx.

The Senate blocked several gun control measures earlier this week.

House Speaker Paul Ryan called the sit-in a stunt.

The House of Representatives is in recess until July 5.
