A local theatre group takes a stand against gun violence in an artistic way.

Students and instructors from the Sundog Theatre performed songs, poems and freestyles focusing on the importance of creating safer neighborhoods in the city.

Its all a part of a city funded anti-gun violence program. For some of the students who participated, this topic hits close to home.

"From family experience, my dad's uncle- he was shot and killed. I feel like being a part of a program that promotes that gun violence should be silenced and what not. I love hearing other people's opinions," said Student Stephan Barry.

"To really instill that and to emphasize it and have the students speak out against it, that's really whats most important," said Teacher Jeannine Otis.

The group plans to release a 10 song album by the end of the year.
