New York City Health and Hospital’s Elmhurst location held its pediatric health and safety fair on Thursday.

The annual event started four years ago when nurses in the hospital’s pediatric ER noticed that many of their patients' injuries were preventable.

Now, the hospital uses the health and safety fair to teach parents and kids how to avoid things that can lead to an injury.

"Just teaching parents, don't walk across the street unless the sign says walk. I mean, that's not something that people just know," said Dr. Randi Wasserman, who is the Director of Pediatrics at NYC Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst.

Kids also got tips on how make their favorite foods healthier; keep their teeth white and more.

"When you grow up, you can teach your own kids to be healthy," said Yair Paez, who lives in East Elmhurst.

There was also music and a puppet show to entertain young attendees.
