The city's musical instrument makers are the focus of an exhibit currently underway at the City Reliquary in Brooklyn.

Called "Sonic City," it highlights the role the city plays in music history.

Rare instruments like handcrafted guitars, master built bases and high end headphones are just some of the items on display in Williamsburg.

The creators of these one-of-a-kind pieces say the city just really strikes a chord with them.

"It's about 100 man hours, but it's a craft and it takes time to developed your craft and if you have no one to make it for then what's the point? So here we are in New York, you can go to the Van Guard, B.B. King's to see great musicians and become inspired and it's the right place to make musical instruments," said Rick McCurdy of McCurdy Guitars.

"Sonic City" runs through September 18th.
