The New York Blood Center has set up shop in Grand Central today, asking commuters to roll up their sleeves and give blood.

They're also soliciting new people to sign up for the bone marrow donor registry.

"We need area donors donating blood. There's a shortage of donors, and we're looking for individuals from all walks of life to donate blood and help save a life," said Elizabeth Castro of the New York Blood Center.

"Usually if you find out they're gonna be inserting the needle, take a deep breath and look away, that's my helpful hint. And then you just squeeze and release," said Kyle McCarthy, a blood donor.

Donors can give blood at Grand Central until 8 p.m.
