A teenager has been found guilty of murder for a fire that killed a city police officer two years ago.

Prosecutors say 18-year old Marcell Dockery started the fire in a Coney Island high rise on April 6, 2014.

Dockery said he lit a mattress on fire after he saw it lying in the hallway.

He was 16 at the time.

Last week, the Brooklyn DA's office released video of Dockery confessing to lighting the mattress on fire. The video was played in court last month.

The fire resulted in the death of Officer Dennis Guerra and critically injured his partner, Rosa Rodriguez.

Rodriguez and Guerra were overcome by smoke while responding to the fire.

Guerra died three days later.

Rodriguez spent six weeks at the hospital recovering from lung damage.

PBA President Pat Lynch says the verdict was the right decision.

"They got a verdict. They got a verdict of guilty. They got a just verdict. They got a jury that took the concerns seriously and courageously came back with this verdict," Lynch said. "This doesn't fix everything, but it does bring justice. It does send a message that you cannot kill a New York City police officer, no matter how that's done."

Dockery was also convicted of arson and assault.

He faces up to 25 years to life in prison when he's sentenced on June 14.
