Police say a man who allegedly tried to rape a woman in the Bronx was beaten to death by her husband Monday night.

It happened around 10:15 p.m. at a building located at 1240 Washington Avenue near 168th Street in Morrisania.

Investigators say 43-year-old Earl Nash, seen in the photo to the left, forced his way into the 51-year-old woman's apartment and attacked her.

She managed to run away and used her cell phone to call her husband, 61-year-old Mamadou Diallo, who was just outside.

Police say Diallo found Nash in the hallway and beat him.

Nash later died at the hospital.

"He's trying to defend his wife, from something that is potentially going to happen, and now he's being charged for it. What a world we live in," said one neighbor.

"Anything that happened is self-defense. I don't think they're going to charge him for that," said another neighbor.

"The man was saving his wife's life. It's not safe what he did, just walking into somebodys apartment like that," added a third neighbor.

Diallo was arrested and charged with two counts of assault.
