The smash hit musical "Hamilton" received a record 16 nominations, including Best Musical, as the nominees for the 70th annual Tony Awards were announced Tuesday morning.

Actors Nikki M. James and Andrew Rannels presented the list at the Paramount Theater in Midtown.

"Hamilton" broke the previous record of 15 nominations shared by "The Producers" and "Billy Elliot."

Its composer and star, Lin-Manuel Miranda, was also nominated for Best Book, Best Music and Lyrics, and Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical.

Miranda's co-star Leslie Odom, Jr. is up for Best Actor as well.

The other nominees for Best Musical are "Bright Star", "School of Rock", and "Shuffle Along".

The shows vying for Best Play are "Eclipsed", "The Father", "The Humans", and "King Charles III".

The nominees for Best Revival of a Musical are "The Color Purple", "Fiddler on the Roof", "She Loves Me", and "Spring Awakening".

The shows up for Best Revival of a Play are "Blackbird", "The Crucible", "Long Day's Journey Into Night", "Noises Off", and "A View from the Bridge".

The Tony Awards will be handed out on June 12.
