Authorities are still trying to determine why a small plane crashed into the Hudson River Friday night, killing the pilot.

NYPD divers and a crane from the Army Corps of engineers recovered the wreckage of the vintage war plane Saturday morning.

The plane is being kept at the Wall Street Heliport while investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration analyze it for clues.

After the FAA concludes its investigation, the plane will be moved to Delaware.

The pilot, 56-year-old William Gordon, was the only one aboard the single-seat aircraft when it went down near the George Washington Bridge on Friday.

It took divers nearly three hours to recover Gordon's body on the New Jersey side of the river.

The P-47 Thunderbolt is owned by the American Airpower Museum on Long Island.

It was one of three planes that departed from nearby Republic Airport, en route to a celebration of the P-47's 75th anniversary this weekend.

The other two planes returned to the airport safely.
