An 8-year-old boy is being questioned after he brought a gun to school in Brooklyn, according to the NYPD.

Police were called to P.S. 91 in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens around 11:30 a.m. Friday.

Union representatives said a teacher was first alerted that the boy was carrying the gun in a backpack.

When security personnel checked that bag, they found a partially-loaded .380-caliber gun

No shots were fired, and no one was hurt, according to officials.

Police confiscated the gun seen above immediately.

One union leader said more measures are needed to prevent these incidents.

"We need to have a meeting with all the parents and we need to alert them as to what's going on in the schools," Local 237 President Gregory Floyd said. "We don't need to hide these incidents. We need to find out why they're occurring."

"Why did the 8-year-old child bring the firearm to school?" Floyd said. "He had a dispute with another student and he was threatening to shoot that student."

"It's ridiculous," one man said. "An 8-year-old with a gun? How does he even get a gun and bring it to school?"

"I think it's wrong," one woman said. "I think the parents should have licenses and should have it in a safe lock."

"It's really scary to know, because what if it came in and it was something different?" another woman said.

The city police department could not confirm if a dispute was the reason the gun was brought to school.

"We are working closely with the NYPD as they investigate this deeply troubling incident," a city education department spokesperson said in a statement. "Nothing is more important than the safety of all students and staff and there is zero tolerance for weapons of any kind."

It's unclear if any charges will be filed.
