Governors Island is opening for the season this Memorial Day weekend and some big new attractions are on the horizon.

NY1 got a first look at the four man-made hills which now dot the new 30 acres of parkland.

They open to the public in July.

Visitors will be able to climb as high as 70 feet for some unique views of the city.

This weekend, people who come to the island can take a special hardhat tour of the hills.

The park is also hosting a family fun fest as a way of kicking off summer.

"We've got about 15 houses filled with art projects, we have a concert, a beautiful rite of summer concert. Open studios, you can meet artists. There's just so much to do here, not just this weekend, but every day," said The Trust for Governors Island President Leslie Koch.

Another thing opening on Governors Island later this summer are slides, including one that is said to be the longest in the city.
