Citi Bike will soon ride further into Manhattan and Brooklyn.
The city announced that 140 new docking stations will be installed this summer.
Officials say the expansion is set to begin in August and will bring the bike share service up to 110th Street in Manhattan and to six Brooklyn neighborhoods: Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Gowanus, Park Slope and Red Hook.
"I started riding as a kid, growing up in New York. I didn't have a driver license. I still don't. It really is the best way to get around. It is so fast, it's easy, it's cheap," said Harry Schwartzman, a bike enthusiast
The expansion will bring the total number of stations to more than 600.
"The more stations there are, the further you can go on the system, the more useful it will be. It can't expand fast enough," Schwartzman added.
"I am so excited. That is great. I think the closet one is way far away and I have always wanted to use it," said one Brooklyn resident eager to see the program's expansion.
Citi Bike had its busiest year in 2015, with more than 10 million rides taken.
