NY1 News was recognized in six categories at the 2016 New York Press Club Awards announced Monday.

The news channel won awards in multiple categories, including politics, sports and feature reporting.

John Schiumo, Reena Diamante, Natasha Alagarasan and Kimberly Ammiano received the Rev. Mychal Judge Heart of New York: Broadcast/TV award for the "New Yorker of the Year Special."  It marks the third year in a row that the news channel has won the Mychal Judge award. 

Tara Lynn Wagner and Tak Inagaki won for Best Feature Reporting: Broadcast/TV for their "Trending in Tokyo" series.

Josh Robin won Best Political Coverage: Broadcast/TV for his "Scandal's Root" series.

NY1 was awarded Best Feature Reporting in the area of Science, Medicine and Technology: Broadcast/TV for its "Colon Cancer Awareness" series.

Zack Tawatari won Best Sports News: Broadcast/TV for his "Tommy John: Career Saves Leader" series.

And the NY1 staff won Best Spot News: Broadcast/TV for its coverage of "The Death of Mario Cuomo," taking home the Spot News TV award for the fifth year in a row.

The New York Press Club considered entries in more than 25 categories of reporting from material submitted by New York metropolitan area news organizations and individual journalists.  Judging was performed by prominent working journalists, former journalists and academics.
