A different kind of tourist paid a visit to New York City.

Videos sent to NY1 by viewers Kristin Thomas-Senior and Fern Senior show a large animal swimming in the East River on Sunday.

According to Paul Sieswerda, founder of the Gotham Whale Group, it appears to be a humpback whale.

Sieswerda said it is unusual to see whales this time of year, and that it is especially unusual for whales to be in the East River.

The Gotham Whale Group aims to "study, advocate for, and educate about the whales and marine mammals of New York City," according to its web site.
