New Yorkers who want free help to quit smoking are running out of time to sign up.

Today is the last day to to apply for free nicotine patches and gum to help kick the habit.

The program is part of an campaign called "Quitting is Hard, Cancer is Harder."

The city has enrolled more than 350-thousand people since the nicotine patch program began in 2003.

Health officials say smoking is a leading cause of preventable death in the city, and kills about 12-thousand New Yorkers each year.

To sign up call 311 or go online to nyc.gov and search "NYC Quits".
