The Department of Transportation (DOT) is taking some measures to ensure drivers stay out of dedicated bus lanes in Queens.

The department is activating cameras along seven bus routes beginning Monday, including the Q44 select bus service route, which runs from the Bronx to Flushing.

Anyone driving or standing in the bus lane during designated hours will receive a $115 ticket.

Council Member Peter Koo of Queens said that he believes the cameras will help keep cars out of bus lanes, allowing service to move more quickly.

"People depend on the service to go from point A to point B in a convenient time," Koo said.

The DOT said it has been warning motorists about the use of cameras for a couple of months, now.
