The NYPD says the lieutenant who oversaw the arrest of a postal worker who was delivering mail on his route in Brooklyn has been stripped of his gun and badge.

Police say NYPD Lieutenant Luis Machado, who oversaw the arrest of 27-year-old Glen Grays, is on modified duty.

The lieutenant and three officers involved in the incident were initially reassigned after the arrest of the Brooklyn postal worker, which was caught on video.

Grays says he was delivering mail when an unmarked police car nearly hit his postal truck.

He says he shouted at the driver, and the officers backed their car up and demanded identification.

He says they exchanged words before he was arrested and issued a summons for disorderly conduct.

Police Commissioner William Bratton says the incident is being reviewed.

Bratton has said he is "very concerned" with the performance of the officers involved.

He added that the officers were in plainclothes when they should have been in uniform.

In a statement, Lieutenants Benevolent Association President Lou Turco said the LBA is "waiting for all of the evidence to be presented and will vigorously defend Lt Machado."

According to Turco, Machado is a former Marine who served in Iraq and is an immigrant from Ecuador who grew up in public housing.

Turco said Machado had never had a discipline issue with the department before.
