It may soon be harder for CitiBike cyclists to catch a ride in the city.

The popular bike sharing group sent an email to its customers Tuesday to annound that it would be pulling 1,000 bikes out of circulation for "accelerated mainenaince."

The company said it expects the repairs to take "a few weeks," and that the bikes due to be pulled from the fleet are already locked into docks.

The email reads in part: "Working with a third party engineering firm, we have determined that the forks in our new bike fleet  — the part that holds the front wheel in place — have been wearing faster than expected. To help ensure your safety, we have accelerated the maintenance schedule for this part."

"We expect this process to take a few weeks, with bikes returned to the system on a rolling basis when they are ready."
