Police arrested a taxi driver they say ran down a woman in Manhattan on Saturday, and then drove off.

68-year-old John Bangura was charged Sunday morning with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

It happened just after 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning on First Avenue between 16th and 17th Streets in Gramercy Park.

The police department said Kenya Flores, 44, was lying on the street when Bangura struck her.

It is not clear at this point why Flores was lying on the road.

Flores was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
