A coastal storm is expected to bring a wintry mix to New York City Friday morning, which will then turn into snowfall later in the morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for New York City, in effect until 10 a.m. on Friday.

The city's Department of Sanitation has also issued a "Snow Alert."

DSNY says the alert, which took effect at midnight Thursday, allows them to begin to prepare for a possible response by preparing salt spreaders and plows.

NY1's forecast called for rain to begin after 10 p.m. Thursday and mix with snow after midnight.

Temperatures were expected to drop into the 30s.

Snow is expected to continue in the morning, with totals in the two- to four-inch range.

The snow could come down heavy at times. However, it could have a hard time sticking at first due to the recent warm temperatures. As a result, roads and sidewalks may be slushy for the morning rush.

Alternate side parking rules are suspended Friday to facilitate snow removal.
