Despite an unseasonably warm start to the winter, the New York Cares Coats Drive reached its goal for the season.

Officials say they collected more than 100,000 coats during their 27th annual coat drive.

It is the first time that many coats were collected since Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

In mid-December only 44,000 coats were taken in with 10 days before the end of the drive.

70,000 coats were distributed before last month's blizzard.

The New York Cares Coat Drive takes place during the holiday season.
