A new exhibit on the Upper West Side is showcasing the diversity of Muslim cultures.

The "America to Zanzibar" exhibit opens Saturday at the Children's Museum of Manhattan.

Kids aged 2 to 10 will be able to learn about what it means to be Muslim both here in the city and around the world.

The exhibit is made up of five sections, including an area where kids research ancient trade routes and an American Home area featuring stories and art from people here in the states.

Museum officials say the exhibit is of particular relevance to New Yorkers.

"All of these cultures live in New York. In fact, it's the first city in the history of the world to have a representative population from every Muslim majority country," said Children's Museum of Manhattan Execuitive Director Andy Ackerman.

"They can come trade Turkish ceramics, they can fish for Zanzibar fish, they can go down to the Moroccan rug stall where we have real Moroccan rugs they can play with. They can serve tea, they can also go down and dress in Senegalese fabrics. And then we can also transport them to different buildings around the world, hop on a boat, so they've got lots of interactive things,' said Lizzy Martin, the exhibit's curator.

The exhibit will be on display until January next year.
