One of the two NYPD officers shot in the Bronx last week was released from the hospital Wednesday.

A crowd of officers was on hand as 24-year-old Diara Cruz left Lincoln Hospital in a wheelchair.

She was escorted by fellow Officer Patrick Espeut, who was also shot and later released from the hospital.

PBA president Pat Lynch says the two of them walking out together is a sign of solidarity.

"They're partners. Partners stick together," Lynch said. "Even when it may hurt, even when they may be in pain, they're going to be there together to hold each other up. They're going to be there to defend each other, like they did that night out in the street."

Both officers were on patrol at a building at the Melrose Houses last Thursday when they encountered two men in a stairwell and asked for identification.

Investigators say 23-year-old Malik Chavis said he would get his ID from upstairs but then fired his weapon, striking Cruz and Espeut.

A third officer who was on patrol was not hurt.
