Aspiring dance students in Southwest Queens now have a new place to practice.

MS 226 in South Ozone Park held a ribbon cutting for a new state of the art dance studio on Friday.

The studio was funded by Council Member Wills office and will be shared by three schools for the Cultural After School Adventures program.

The program is overseen by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and held twice a week.

Previously students practiced in the school's auditorium.

"The dance team always wanted to a room of their own," said dance student Leah Rodriguez.

"I feel happy because we can have a space where we can dance and express ourselves more," said another student, Emily Pargan.

"My goal is for students to engage in dance. Learn the discipline of dance. Learn how to incorporate that in their other studies," said MS 226’s Principal, Ruschell White.

Students are exposed to everything from ballet to Afro-Caribbean dances as part of the program.
