Some police officers spent Christmas Eve pulling over drivers in the Bronx, but they were not handing out tickets.

Officers from the 47th Precinct in Williamsbridge randomly gave gifts to kids in cars and in the street.

Police say this is a good way to improve community relations.

People who were pulled over say they were pleasantly surprised.

"I as nervous a little,” one driver said. “I know my paperwork is good for the car. I was like, ‘What's going on?’ But I really appreciate you guys coming out to the community and showing your support."

"I was like, ‘Oh my God, what the hell did I do wrong?’” one woman said. “But I think this is a really nice gesture, especially with everything that's been going on."

"It's very awesome," one child said.

"This is a neighborhood that unfortunately, they're not fortunate enough, some kids in the neighborhood, so it's a good thing we wanted to do," Capt. John Orellana said.

Police say they had extra toys to distribute from a recent toy drive.
