A local non-profit brightened the spirits of children with special needs.

New Alternatives for Children held its annual holiday party at Chelsea Piers.

The group provides programs for kids living with disabilities and chronic illness.

More than 1,000 children took part in a talent show, arts and crafts, and face painting.

They even got a chance to hang out with Santa and play with a few furry friends.

"This is a very amazing day for these children, because they really don't have opportunities," said Arlene Goldsmith, executive director of NAC. "Everyone gets to see Santa Claus, get gifts, wonderful food, and just a fabulous day a lot of activities, photos, dogs, we have everything."

"We did crafts and soon I'm gonna dance," one child said.

"My favorite part is the bouncy house and singing," said another.

This is the 30th year New Alternatives has thrown the celebration.
