Events were being held around the city Tuesday to mark World AIDS Day.

Vice President Joe Biden was scheduled to join U2 frontman Bono and comedian Stephen Colbert at Carnegie Hall to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Bono's AIDS charity, RED, and his advocacy group ONE.

Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn honored AIDS victims by hanging a quilt with the names of people who have died from the disease.

Ahead of World AIDS Day, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the state is ramping up its efforts to end the epidemic.

The state is adding an additional $200 million to the $2.5 billion it already spends each year to address the disease.

The money funds AIDS treatment, education, and awareness programs.

In June of last year, the governor set a goal to end AIDS in New York by 2020.
