Some holiday music was turned into the sounds of protest at the Staten Island Mall on Friday after a holiday tradition was canceled earlier this month.

About a dozen people sang carols as part of a demonstration.

NY1 first reported the mall canceled its annual Santa Parade and a "Boycott Staten Island Mall" movement started in response.

It remains unclear why it was canceled.

The mall then bowed to pressure and said it will hold a "holiday celebration" on December 4.

Protesters say they want the venue's Christmas tree, which was moved outside this holiday season, back inside next year.

"All we're trying to do is keep tradition alive for our children and our grandchildren, and have them experience the wonderment and the happiness of the Christmas season and Santa in center court and the Christmas tree and children with smiles on their faces," said protest organizer Joe DeMarco

Officials say the Santa Parade will be back next year.

Protesters say they will be back Saturday afternoon.
