Hundreds of runners at Yankee Stadium raised money for cancer research Sunday.

It was for the 7th Annual 5K Damon Runyon Cancer Research Fundraiser. Runyon was a well-known sports journalist and author, whose stories formed the basis for the Broadway hit musical "Guys and Dolls".

Runyon died of cancer in 1946. Organizers say his legacy lives on with this fundraiser that's also fun.

"It's such an amazing, fun event," said Lorraine Egan, President and CEO of the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation. "It's all for cancer research. But the people here are all having a great time enjoying the entire stadium.

"They get to run on the track, see themselves on the jumbotron and go up and down the concourses and it's all a really fun time. We have people who are young, old, runners, walkers. It's really all supporting cancer research."

Last year's run brought in $600,000.
