Police are searching for a driver they say hit and killed a man in Queens, then took off.

Investigators say 41-year-old Mariano Contreras was trying to cross mid-block at Roosevelt Avenue and College Point Boulevard just after 1 a.m. Sunday when he was hit by a dark-colored SUV.

They say the driver took off after hitting him, going northbound on College Point Boulevard.

Contreras was taken to New York Hospital of Queens, where he was pronounced dead.
