Family and friends gathered Tuesday to remember NYPD Officer Randolph Holder at his wake in Queens.

Holder died a week ago after being shot in the head in East Harlem.

Members of the NYPD and elected officials, including Mayor Bill de Blasio, also attended the service.

Others who were there wanted to show support and make a statement about gun violence.

Fellow officers and families and victims say they were especially touched by Holder's death.

"It's a sad day for the NYPD and it's a sad day for PSA 5. We lost one of our valiant officers who was doing what we asked him to do each and every day," said Captain Reynundo Mundo, Holder's commanding officer.

"It's heartwrenching. It's heartwrenching," said a person who attended the wake. "Here, another black man trying to do good, 33 years old. It just brought back a lot of memories from what I went through."

Officer Holder's funeral will take place at Greater Allen AME Cathedral at 3 p.m. Wednesday. NY1 will broadcast the service live.

Holder will be buried in his native Guyana.

The wake comes the same day Holder's accused killer, Tyrone Howard, was indicted in court.

Howard is facing robbery and murder charges for allegedly shooting Holder.

His lawyer, Michael Hurwitz, says the trial will reveal the facts.

"The verdict on Mr. Howard will be determined at trial, not here. He should not be pre-judged," Hurwitz said. "He denies the allegations."

Police found a gun in the Harlem River over the weekend that they say was used to shoot Holder.
