Three major internet service providers are having to answer questions from the State Attorney General's office about accusations of falsely advertising internet speeds.

NY1’s parent company Time Warner Cable, along with Verizon and Cablevision, have received notices from the state over concerns that customers are not experiencing the broadband speeds advertised by the companies.

Prosecutors say some customers who have paid for premium services may not be experiencing increased speed due to interconnection arrangements between the internet providers.

All three companies have been asked to hand over documents outlining the internet speeds they provide.

In response to the inquiry, Time Warner Cable released a statement, saying, "We’re confident that we provide our customers the speeds and services we promise them and look forward to working with the AG to resolve this matter."

Cablevision says it will cooperate and turn over any documents necessary.

As for Verizon, a spokesman says the company is not commenting at this time.
